Horseshoe crabs, called as “living fossils” sometimes because they have been existing on the planet for millions of years, confront threat because of the increasingly serious pollution. The blue blood of horseshoe crabs is valuable. Because the amebocyte extracted from its blue blood could be used to produce amebocyte lysate. And the amebocyte lysate could be employed to detect endotoxin, which can cause fever, inflammation, and (frequently) irreversible shock, or even death. Amebocyte lysate is widely applied to monitor or control medical quality.
Protecting horseshoe crabs is imperative no matter from the perspective of biological diversity or from the aspect of its value on medical domain.
Bioendo, the endotoxin and beta-glucan detection expert, will develop series activities to introduce hourseshoe crabs, and stress its importance for both biological diversity and medical domain, then enhance people’s awareness of protection of horseshoe crabs.
